The Cuban medical system has definitely advanced. They now have 60,000 trained physicians to serve a population of less then twelve million. They have expanded to 284 hospitals, 440 clinics, 11 research institutes, and 15 medical colleges (Roemer, 1991). Some of their aspects have been criticized, though. For example: the doctor to person ratio (1:190) is considered too extravagant, and the annual expenditure of 10-15% of their GDP (Gross Domestic Product) for research and free medical care is also considered too much (Schechner, 1994). Yet, Cuba’s impressive growth cannot be denied, and is still predominantly admired by many nations in the world. The Cuban socialist philosophy has been further emphasized through the treatment to other countries. Many physicians volunteer to third world countries and they have participated in many relief efforts (Schwab, 1997). is currently the sole producer of a vaccine against the bacteria that causes meningitis-B.
has produced a micro surgical approach to cure retinas pigmetosa with a 80% success rate.
developed a successful treatment for Vitiligo (loss of skin pigmentation), previously thought untreatable.
has trained researchers who are currently working on a cure for AIDS which has an outlook described as "hopeful." (Schwab, 1997).

في كوبا هناك طبيب لكل مية و تسعين مواطن
هناك تقريبا سبعة اطباء لكل الف مواطن في كوبا
بينما هناك تقريبا تلاتة اطباء (2.7) لكل الف مواطن في انجلترا
و هناك طبيبان و نصف (2.4) لكل الف مواطن في الولايات المتحدة
و هنا ثلث طبيب (0.3) لكل الف مواطن في السودان

و في الجدول في الرابط اعلاه الدول الاعلى نسبة في عدد الاطباء بالنسبة لألف مواطن كلها ما عدا اسرائيل كانت دول اشتراكية!
Cuba currently has more medical personnel serving abroad than all of the wealthy G-8 nations combined. As of April 2012, there were 38,868 Cuban medical professionals working in 66 countries, of whom 15,047 were doctors – about 22 per cent of Cuba’s total number of physicians. To date some 135,000 health workers have participated in medical missions abroad.
