No Charges after Rochester Airport Evacuation
(ABC 6 NEWS) -- New information tonight, about Wednesday's evacuation of the Rochester International Airport.

It was shut down after a TSA agent found a suspicious package in some luggage. Flights were delayed and cancelled. A bomb squad was brought it. That suspicious item did not turn out to be anything dangerous.

Now police say a Rochester man was at the center of the whole thing. He was trying to board an American Airlines flight headed to Chicago. Authorities questioned the 55-year-old man Wednesday night.

The original call to police wasn't about a suspicious package. Instead it was because this man had questionable travel documents.

That's when the TSA looked in his luggage, and found something suspicious inside.

That 55-year-old Rochester man was questioned and released by authorities. No charges are expected to be filed against him.

Things are back to normal in Rochester's main terminal.

Less than 24 hours ago passengers weren't allowed inside for a few hours after TSA officials saw something of concern in a 55-year-old Rochester man's bag.

"The X-ray showed several items when the manner and angle in which they were placed within the bag when viewed by the X-ray gave the look of a suspicious item," said Captain Brian Winters of the Rochester Police Department.

Police aren't saying exactly what was found but say one of the items was something TSA officials wouldn't normally see in a carry-on.

Within 15 minutes the airport was evacuated, the flight to Chicago, the one the man was supposed to be on, was cancelled and an incoming flight from Minneapolis was delayed.

"We never like to have inconveniences like this to the traveling public, nevertheless safety is number one," says Steve Leqve, airport manager. He says he doesn't remember the last time the terminal was evacuated because of something like this.

"I think the right decision was made," said Leqve.

Although a bomb wasn't found, officials say this was a good reminder of how prepared they are at any moment.

"All due diligence was exercised by the TSA, proper procedure and protocol was followed," said Winters.

"We're going to critique the situation but honestly I think everything came together and it went really quite well," said Leqve.

There's no word on if anything was confiscated by TSA from the man's luggage. Rochester police say their investigation is complete
