Quote: We the below, undersigned Sudanese - Swedish organizations / Associations, are hereby registering and submitting our points of protest on the unfair practices of the National Election Commission (NEC) against members of the Sudanese - Diaspora Community generally and in Sweden particularly, for exclusion from the voter registration for 2010 General Elections. We are disappointed at the way the National Election Commission (NEC) has unfairly selected 7-Arab states, out of ten, as Diaspora - Registration Centers --- and thus, singling out East-African Countries, Australia, Canada and most of Europe, where majority of marginalized Sudanese have taken refuge from successive repressal regimes of Khartoum. We intend to address the following issues that are hampering wider participation of the marginalized Sudanese people in the Diaspora: 1- We call upon (NEC) to revoke it`s unfair decision of choosing only Brussels and U.K as Registration Centers for the whole of Europe. It is both financially and logistically impractical for individuals and families to travel twice, for registration, and shortly afterwards for voting. There is a need for more registration centers in each and every Sudanese Embassy across Europe, East Africa, South Africa, West Africa, Asia, Canada and Australia / New Zealand. 2- As such we particularly demand separate Registration Centers to be available at the only two Embassies of Sudan in the Nordic Countries in both Stockholm - Sweden and Oslo - Norway, where a large constituency of not less than (10 000) Sudanese resides (in Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark) 3- The restrictions of only Valid Sudanese passports for registration, is null and void, given the government’s policy of intentional destruction of public records and infrastructure during the war and thus, many of our people have no way to possess, produce or obtain Sudanese IDs because of such practices. 4- We demand for acceptance of other IDs for those who have ones, such as Sudanese Nationality- Birth Certificates, Sudanese’s ID-Cards and even IDs from the hosting countries, where the place of birth is clearly stated to be Sudan. 5- We call upon (NEC) to abrogate it`s unfounded decision of Diaspora voting only for the President of the republic of Sudan, and to sanction instead, a unified voting craterion as applied domestically. 6- There is a need to involve representatives of various international organs and political parties as observers, during the registration, voting, counting and results announcement process, to deter foul play. 7- We demand an extension in the duration period of registration to the end of December 2009. 8- Whereas national, regional and international community joined tremendous efforts to broker the hardly earned Comprehensive Peace Agreement, the (CPA) --- challenges over implementing some of it`s provisions, pose a serious threat to the deal. We call upon all actors of the (CPA) to recognize the fact that, fair and just democratic transformation which respects individual - democratic rights to organize and choose without restrictions, is equally important as peace through development. 9- We therefore, call upon peace loving and fair-minded people to join us in this action against injustices and demand immediate abrogation of laws restrictive to freedoms and immediate passing of the security bill before general elections --- in order to ensure smooth, just and fair election process.
