Let me describe the situation for you there.. I used to worked there as a doctor for more than a year and it is really a tragic place… not to hide from you, I nearly got a nervous break down and severe depression a couple of times from what I saw there. It is a place where u get the two extremes of joy and depression at the same time; once you feel that you are enjoying it because you are helping these helpless children whom are paying the price of their parents and will be living with the stigmata for the rest of their life, and on the other hand you get depressed from the conditions of most of the children when they are brought in by the police or by their mums and from the lack of facilities in al maygoma…
I also remember having the most wonderful moments in my life there when a child of them smiles at me….my god what a joy… or when u see the first steps of a kid whom you have been following up since he or she was brought to you there when he was one day or two days old and he nearly died out there alone, and now he is taking g his first steps in life… I remember one of them, his first word was my name…ya allah, you can never imagine what that feels unless you see if for your self.
This is a real problem in the country and if I tell you the number of children that I used to admit per month, believe me you will be shocked…
What is really sad there is that the main support for this facility is coming from foreign organisations like FAR (fellowship for African relief) and another organization but can not recall the name cause it is new and I no longer work there. Why should they help us when we can do that our self???
The administration work is taken by the Social Service Department in Sudan and the medical part was held by the FAR in the past and by the new organization now.
I can not hide that all of the parties are putting massive effort in supplying al maygoma with what it needs but still we need more national organization to give a hand in this 3ashan these kids are our kids not the kids of these foreign organizations …we have to take care of them.
One thing I can guarantee for you Abu Sandra which is if you pay this place a visit, I am sure you will be in no difference from your child in crying, believe me in this cause I have seen it on the faces of many many many men who came for a visit and ended up crying like children cause the look on the face of these children will really tear your heart apart.
The problem of how these children came into life is very difficult to handle because it is a problem of societies and can not be solved individually, but what we can do is give hand for these children.
I really hope that others just pay a small visit to Al Maygoma and contribute with what they can to those children cause it will really make all the difference for them….
Please do cause they need you, they need me, and they need all of us..

i just want ot high-light the point that large numbers of them die and there has been a strong talk about it regarding the cause and is it the neglegence in the dar... well everyone outside mygoma will say that but non of them has seen these babies when they are brought in from the streets.. the majority of them die in their first days because they were left out in the streets for hours or sometimes even days with out milk or propers coverings, facing dust and dirty air and flies ending up by severe dehydration before they are brought in to aldar. some are found in ditches or places u can never imagine and i dont want to mention here cause you wont believe it but I HAVE BEEN THERE AND HAVE SEEN IT ALL... some are delivered pre-term ( before completing their dates) and left out alone.. some are delivered by non registered mid-wives ( dayat) in far places using dirty equipments and away from people to hide their sins and the baby is also left behind...some mothers have also taken drugs to abort the baby but didnt work and she deliverd them at term and ofcourse these drugs will have effected the baby.. AND ALL THESE BABIES ARE BROUGHT THERE TO AL DAR, so what do u expect after all that????!!!! that explains the high death rate there... it is difficult to find deathes in older babies but most are in new admissions due to the causes i mentioned before..
i admite that there are some mistakes that happens during work there but it is due to the high number of children there and small number of workers there on the other hand.. and comparing to the effort they make over there, we can never blame these workers.
some workers even take small kids with them back to their homes in order to let them have the feel of a family life. some workers also bring their children to play with the babies there..
a time once came before when one of the organizations couldnt cover the expenses of the workers and pulled out and there was not any organization to take over and the workers worked there for 3 months without payments..!!!! if they didnt care about these kids like your firend said and most people say well they could have left them alone and looked for a job else where, but no... non of them left worked and continued working for three months until the situation was fixed...!!!!and after al that they say they dont care about these babies?????????
i really get mad when i read these stuff about aldar in the news papers about the negligence and deathes that happens there.. for gods sake please better than writting nonsense stuff in the papers,i ask these newspapers reporters to go and work as volunteers for a week in the mygoma and they will see for them selves what it is really there and the shape of these babies when they are brought in and their bad conditions and the effort these people are doing there to help those kids..
instead of talking, do something.. ( thats for the reporters and the society not you bayan )
