US sanctions threat to peace and security: Sudan’s Foreign Ministry warns

    Khartoum-SudaneseOnline- Sudan’s Foreign Ministry has described the renewal of US sanctions on Sudan as the greatest threat to social peace and security of the country for their direct impact on development, impoverishment of people and underdevelopment which leads to escalation and sustain of the conflicts.
    In a statement issued on Monday, Sudan’s Foreign Ministry condemned the renewal of U.S sanctions on Sudan, describing the US Administration's insistence to renewal of these sanctions as a political intrigue and double standards
    The statement added that Washington standards to fight against terrorism in Islamic countries reflects an unprecedented type of state terrorism
    "Sudan’s government rejects all justifications and insists its engagement in peace and reconciliation through the national dialogue initiative launched by President Al-Bashir last January and welcomed by regional and international parties ". The statement said
    It stressed that the Government is aware of its responsibilities towards its citizens in Darfur, and it continues to implement the Doha agreement, along with its commitment to dialogue with the rebel movements in Southern Kordofan and Blue Nile to reach a comprehensive peace.
    “The US attempts to renew sanctions will not deter the Sudanese government from moving towards achieving permanent peace and sustainable development and it will urge all Sudanese people to unite,” it said.
    Obama referred in decision to the 1997 president Clinton decision imposing sanctions on Sudan for alleged support to terrorism and another decision taken by President Bush in April 2007 expanding the sanctions because of Darfur conflict.
