Khartoum-Sudan's president, Omar al-Bashir, has announced his readiness to discuss all outstanding issues between Khartoum and Juba with his South Sudanese counterpart, Salva Kiir Mayardit, during the expected Summit between the two presidents in which will discuss the contested area of Abyei, borders and the security issues between the two countries.

This came during the reception of Sudan's president to the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Sudan and South Sudan Haile Menkerios on Tuesday in Khartoum.

For his part, Menkerios told the reporters that the meeting was a positive step and a good opportunity to resolve the many outstanding issues between the two countries, adding that al-Bashir confirmed his readiness to discuss all these issues with South Sudan's President.

The UN Special Representative for Sudan and South described Sudanese Government's positions towards resolving the contentious issues with South Sudan as "positive attitudes"

Sudanese government twice agreed to postpone implementation of the closure in response to pleas by the African Union (AU) mediators and China.

Khartoum’s main grievance is that South Sudan backs anti-Khartoum insurgents operating in Blue Nile, South Kordofan and Darfur.

Juba denies the charge and in turn accuses Sudan of supporting rebels in Jonglei state.

AU committees have been established to verify claims of rebel harboring and support by the two countries.
