The anti-narcotics police squad of South Darfur seized large quantities of marihuana in El Radoom locality on Tuesday.

During searches at marihuana-producing areas in El Radoom locality, neighbouring the Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of Congo, the police squad found 4,450 “ready-to-sell” pieces of marihuana, and about 735kg of cannabis seeds.

The police showed the results of its campaign to the local press in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, on Tuesday. Apart from the marihuana and the seeds, four firearms and seven mobile telephones were seized. andnbsp;andnbsp;

Members of the National Parliament had accused government employees of cultivating marihuana in Darfur in a heated discussion mid-April.

The seizure of the cannabis in South Darfur comes less than a week after the find in Port Sudan of five containers filled with various drugs, discovered by customs officers among a load of maize imported by a Sudanese company.
