Khartoum Teaching Hospital refuses patients from west Sudan

    KHARTOUM / CENTRAL DARFUR

    (

    15 Sep

    .) -

The Khartoum Teaching Hospital has rejected a number of patients infected by unknown viruses. During the past two weeks, 13 children and elderly died in camps for the displaced in Wadi Salih locality, Central Darfur, owing to a lack of medicines.

Medical specialists at the Khartoum Teaching Hospital have categorically rejected to hospitalise a number of cases infected by unknown viruses, coming from “one of the western states”. They stated to the press on Sunday that the medical staff “will be genuinely threatened if we would receive these patients, as there are not enough isolation rooms in the hospital”.

    Deaths

Speaking to Radio Dabanga, a Garsila camp sheikh reported that 13 children and elderly died in Jebel, Jeddah, and Garsila camps in the past two weeks.

“The shortage of medical care and affordable medicines is causing an increase in mortality among patients in the camps. “The children and elderly were suffering from malaria and diarrhoea, ailments that could have been cured, if there would have been enough medicines available.”

The camp sheikh urged the health authorities and aid organisations in Central Darfur to provide treatment “as soon as possible”.
