ICC’s referral of Darfur issue to UN is a means of pressure to arrest those wanted by the court: Su

December 17, 2014-Khartoum-SudaneseOnline-Sudan’s Foreign Ministry has considered that the International Criminal Court (ICC) to refer Sudan’s file to the UN Security Council again is attempt to escalate Darfur issue, describing the step as “ a mean of pressure” to issue new resolutions to arrest those wanted by the court.
In statements before Sudan’s Council of States on Tuesday, Sudan’s Foreign Minister, Ali Karti, accused unnamed international organizations working in the country send negative reports about what is happening in Sudan to assist ICC, pointing out that the country’s wars and the internal political disputes have made the international organizations achieve its interests and those of others.
“Nature of our differences and our internal issues influenced the country's relations abroad” Karti added
Sudan’s top diplomat explained that some foreign organizations in Darfur trade in Sudanese issues with support from political activists to get negative reports on the country
Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court (ICC), Fatou Bensouda, said she was discontinuing her investigations in Darfur because of a lack of initiative by the UN Security Council (UNSC).
The ICC has also charged, but failed to arrest, Defense Minister Abdel Raheem Muhammed Hussein, former Interior Minister Ahmed Haround, and Janjaweed militia leader Ali Kushayb for alleged war crimes that took place in Darfur since rebels took up arms against the Arab-led government in Khartoum in 2003.
At least 300,000 people have been killed since then, and another 2 million have fled their homes.
