Differences erupt in Parliament over hosting Ahmed Haroun

    Khartoum-The Parliament witnessed a legal intense debate between the speaker of the parliament Al-Fateh Izz-Eddin and a number of legal figures over the legality of dedicating a hearing session for North Darfur state governor Ahmed Haroun to shed lights on documents of the state development.

    The legal personalities have considered the address of Ahmed Haroun as not constitutional and contradictory with the Parliament rules that the governor has to address the states’ council.

    Speaker of the Parliament has said that article 47/3 gives the speaker of the parliament the discretional power to host influential figures. He cited that the Parliament has earlier listened to the former North Kordofan governor Abdel-Karim Al-Husseni and the chairman of the regional authority twice.

    On her Part, Awatif Al-Ga’ali has said that this issue poses a flagrant violation to the constitutional article 91/3 that says the governors are not among those who shall address the parliament. She further said that the discretional powers of the speaker of the Parliament under article 47/3 re not absolute.

    On his part, the former vice president Ali Osman Taha has said that national and political responsibility should not be governed by the narrow frameworks and limited explanations of the regulations.

    The former speaker of the Parliament Ahmed Ibrahim Al-Tahir has said that the regulation of the Parliament has allowed the head of the African mechanism Thabo Mbeki and the Iranian President Ahmed Nejad to address the parliament saying that why should not allow the people of homeland to address the parliament
