$US 1,300,000 Allocated for Creating Job Opportunities for Youth in Su

Khartoum, 28 January 2014 -- The Government of Sudan, The India, Brazil and South Africa Facility for Poverty and Hunger Alleviation (IBSA Fund) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) endorsed today a USD 1,300,000 project for the creation of youth employment opportunities in Sudan.
The “Creation of Job Opportunities for Youth in Sudan through Labor Intensive Work Opportunities’ Project” is the first initiative by IBSA countries in Sudan, in line with the South-South Cooperation’s framework.
The project aims at creating a labor intensive model to avail rapid and sustainable employment opportunities for young unemployed and unskilled laborers through building capacities and availing employment opportunities for improved livelihoods.
In his opening remarks, the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative Mr. Ali Al-Za’tari welcomed the generous contributions by the Governments of India, Brazil and South Africa that came in the interest of Sudanese youth. “The project represents a significant South-South partnership to support employment among youth across Sudan’s states.”He said.
The Government of Sudan through the Ministry of Human Resources Development and Labor, the Ministry of Finance and National Economy and Khartoum State are key partners in this two-year project that aims to establish a national intensive labor model that will be piloted first in Khartoum State.
Partnership with the three countries representing the three continents – Asia, South America and Africa - helps bring in knowledge transfer, expertise and best practices to support developing countries. The IBSA Fund focus areas of development work include health, education, sanitation, food security, agriculture and capacity building sectors.
Commending the initiative, Ambassador of Brazil H.E. Mr. Antonio Carlos N. DON-PEDRO stated, “This is a historic moment in terms of cooperation with the Government of Sudan. This is the first initiative for IBSA in Sudan. Indeed, we have numerous low -cost and effective initiatives that can be replicated to effectively alleviate poverty in Sudan.”
